ChannelFireball Opts for Store Credit in TCGplayer Acquisition

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — News surrounding the purchase of ChannelFireball by TCGplayer has made its rounds, though elements of the acquisition are still trickling in. One such detail shows ChannelFireball opting to receive store credit in lieu of cash.

“Store credit is always a higher payout,” Marco Garrett, ChannelFireball spokesperson said. “We polled our staff and the majority voted for store credit since they’d be spending it on MTG product anyway. Those Double Masters 2022 singles aren’t going to buy themselves. Plus, we have more than a few people wanting those limited-edition Warhammer 40k commander decks, and Dominaria United, Jumpstart, Unfinity… you see where I’m going. Overall, it was the better line of play.”

As more information about the acquisition comes to light, it’s clear the choice to forgo cash in lieu of credit was the rational one.

“TCGplayer offered us an ongoing 15% bonus bucks for 90 days too, meaning even more value,” Garrett said. “To top it off, free membership in their TCGplayer Infinite subscription. Anyone on the fence was immediately swayed by these offers. Personally, I have already purchased a few grand worth of cards. 15% back and free shipping adds up quickly when your addiction is as far gone as mine. Honestly, I think a lot of people would be better off converting their dollars to cardboard these days.”

TCGplayer on the other hand, while happy with the overall deal, cited some slight disappointed after the acquisition was completed.

“When ChannelFireball arrived, we noticed that despite being listed at NM, it was obviously in LP condition. These kinds of differences are often subtle, but we’ve been doing this for a long time and anyone with any knowledge on how to grade condition would have never listed it at NM. In the end we didn’t think it was worth a return since we’d have to go to the post office. It’s just too much of a hassle.”

We asked what was next for their new purchase but TCGplayer reported that they weren’t sure and didn’t think beyond the overwhelming urge to just buy it. So, for now ChannelFireball has been added to the “bling binder” to show off to friends.

omg. dry erase cards. Of all the dry erase cards these are the driest. “How dry are they?” As dry as my wife after hearing me talk about how great MTG is. Sahara dry.
