Following Bitcoin, El Salvador Adopts Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer As Legal Currency

Following the adoption of cryptocurrency giant, Bitcoin, as legal currency in El Salvador, the country has announced it will also be making the Magic: The Gathering card Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer from Modern Horizons 2 another form of legal currency.

“Why not?” El Salvadoran Nayib Bukele told us over a zoom call on Monday. “He’s super cute. Who doesn’t love a thieving monkey pirate. We’re going to be the first to use MTG as legal currency and have the best Modern decks in the world which means we’re going to win all the Modern events and get even richer. The plan is foolproof.”

The system is fairly simple, a Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer can be traded in for two Scalding Tarns, each of which can be then broken down into four Shark Typhoons, then into two Expressive Iterations which are worth five Counterspells each.

“We’re opening up a printing facility in El Salvador immediately,” WotC spokesperson Guy McFreely said. “It’s a little weird how there such a preference for Izzet here, but I guess it’s a cultural thing.”

Many have expressed disdain for the change, citing the extra time, effort, and money needed to double sleeve currency. Additionally, deckboxes replacing wallets is sure to put a strain on both safety and logistics.

“A whole new form of pockets and purses are being produced in order to carry around deckboxes full of Magic: The Gathering cards. Basically, the people of El Salvador have brought back giant purses and MC Hammer pants. As someone who loves American culture from the late 80’s and early 90’s I hope we bring back big hair and jelly bracelets too.”

Along with the change in currency, Nayib Bukele announced their dropping of the traditional system of measurements for a new one as well with the standard size playmat replacing the meter.

omg. dry erase cards. Of all the dry erase cards these are the driest. “How dry are they?” As dry as my wife after hearing me talk about how great MTG is. Sahara dry.
